Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA)

The Christensen Fund

The Christensen Fund is an independent private foundation which has long supported work in the arts and conservation science fields. Their grantmaking is focused on ‘the interface between natural environments and human cultures’, primarily working with indigenous and minority peoples. The four geographic regions where the Fund is planning to develop grantmaking include the mountains and valleys of Central Turkey-Iran-Central Asia-Xinjiang and the African Rift Valley.

This new site aims to simplify the process of identifying potential donors and enticing them to donate, using the most basic fundraising model – a letter. Grant-seekers are asked to supply a two-page description of their initiative, which is forwarded on to thousands of highly qualified donors, 90 per cent of whom have opted in to the service and want to receive appeals. The list includes high net worth business leaders, rich celebrities, corporate staff responsible for philanthropy, government officers and thousands of individuals who regularly make donations.
